Bazaar's Choices for Women in their 40's and in their 50's
Normally, I don't comment on the selections for the Forty year old women because, though society may make you think you are old at this age, you aren't. If you have taken good care of yourself, I think you can wear most things. However, in this case, I can't believe of all the clothes the designers have designed that they couldn't have come up with something better than this Narcisco Rodriguez dress. I can't believe that Narcisco Rodriguez would come up with something this "out there". Why he would put that crazy flap in the front of the dress? The dress by itself is so busy, it would take someone very tall to carry it off. There had to be better choices. Also in this same category, the picture of Natalie Massenet is not a stylish one. Whatever she is wearing is so baggy, I personally don't think it is flattering.
The Miu Miu outfit selected for the 50's category is absolutely horrible. I wouldn't wear it if someone gave it to me and I was 20 years old and six feet tall. Literature on the ageing of women shows that in the past, women tended to pick more subdued colors. I am all for bolder colors on women at any age because they are fun, lively and express feelings of joy and happiness. However, this outfit is is ridiculous. Those striped hose and clunky shoes make it even worse. The editor of this column must have taken it from the runway photos, and didn't even bother to make it appropriate for a 50 year old woman. Why even have the Column if you aren't going to take the time to make it fit the audience it is intended for? (The photo is also terrible with the skirt catching between the model's legs.) If you are going to do a Feature Column for 50 year old women,Bazaar, please take the time to choose the right accessories and make it at least look attractive. This is downright insulting to women in this age category. In fact, I think it's insulting to almost any age category.

The Diane von Furstenberg sweater feels like very little thought went in to the selection. I think the pattern would be very hard to wear unless you are very thin. It's not terrible, but it also reminds me of Christmas design for some reason. Last, are the shoes by Balmain for 845.00. It looks to me like the heel on that shoe is at least 5 inches high if not six. I thought that insanely high heels were for younger people? It just seems of ALL the black pumps in the world, there had to be a pair just as pretty that were a bit more" risk-free". And, if the model wearing the Miu Miu outfit had at least been wearing these shoes, without those stockings, it would have been a little less insulting.
Again, the photo of Lisa Eisner is not a bad one, but it's not a great one either. It just feels like no one editing this column truly cares about what is published.
